A cold photographic composition. A steely blue-grey window acts as a canvas for reflecting the austere Federal Detention Center in Miami’s Civic Center.
From the perspective of The Dyer Federal Building And Courthouse at 300 Northeast 1st Avenue, the Federal Detention Center fills the casement frames. A stately 1931 building of weathered limestone built in the architectural style of Mediterranean Revival, The David Dyer was originally the Miami U.S. Post Office and Courthouse. The large elevated ground floor windows provide a grim contrast to the narrow slits given to the poor souls that occupy the austere Federal Detention Center.
